Jazzonian is very pleased to congratulate the high achievement of Band Director Christopher Dorsey and the young men and women of the Dillard High School Jazz Band for winning 1st place in the Essentially Ellington national high school Jazz band competition.

Jazzonian also sends a mighty congratulations to the Jazz band of the New World School of the Arts directed by Jazz and Instrumental Studies Associate Professor Jim Gaiser for receiving Honorable Mention as part of the competition.
Recently, Jazzonian announced its 2011 Excellence in Jazz Education Award. This year's recipient is Mr. Christopher Dorsey, Band Director of the Jazz Orchestra at Dillard Center for the Arts in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. As part of the honors, Jazzonian will also make a charitable contribution of $500 to the school Jazz program.
The Jazzonian "Excellence in Jazz Education" Award was established in 2011 and seeks to recognize high achieving individuals in the area of Jazz education--particularly in elementary and high school levels--that are part of the South Florida Jazz landscape.
